evidence to the commission of enquiry: #3 running like tar out of the smoke

Back to: Surviving the Devil: A Song of Fire
Poem #31 from the ‘Surviving the Devil’ collection (unpublished)

when I saw her emerge from out of the smoke
it was just…

I didn’t know what to do

she was obviously distressed
in real trouble

and her feet
were sort of…

see
she had no shoes
or anything at all over them
and I don’t know how far she must have come
but they were …

it looked as though
they were dripping ash

like tar
pouring off her feet

she was a terrible mess
and I had no idea
what on this earth
I should do
